LEGO Batman, the hit videogame from 2008, is now available for download for PC users. The game allows users to play as either Batman or Robin as they fight their way through Gotham City against the likes of the Joker, the Penguin, Catwoman and other super-villains roaming about the city. As with all LEGO games, the user has the ability to build and break down items to assist them in their missions.

Listed below are some of the pros and cons of this videogame.

Pros

  • The game includes two story modes, one from the heroes’ perspectives and one from the villains’ perspective. This makes the game longer and adds to its overall quality. LEGO Batman also features a free-play mode in which players can simply roam around Gotham breaking or building as much as they want with no need to focus on a mission.
  • LEGO Batman allows gives users a variety of vehicles for their characters to ride. Iconic vehicles like the Batmobile, Batwing or Batboat are ever-present, and there are also simpler vehicles such as bikes, motorcycles and cars just sitting around the streets of Gotham.
  • The game's main set piece, Gotham City, is vast and extensive. Players are asked to drive through the city's streets, fight across its rooftops and dredge through its sewers to accomplish missions.
  • Like all of the LEGO games, it is very easy to switch characters throughout the game. With the tap of a button, players can go back and forth from playing as Batman or Robin, or any other available character who happens to be nearby.
  • Players will encounter all types of new suits or gadgets as they travel throughout the game.
  • For fans of the Tim Burton Batman movies, they will notice Danny Elfman’s rich and masterful score underneath all game play.
  • As the game is played, users will find secret power ups and bonus blocks. Some of these can be used to unlock secret characters taken directly from the DC Comics universe.
  • LEGO Batman features many cutscenes that are not only essential to the story but are also quite funny.

Cons

  • The PC controls are somewhat difficult to manage. Anyone serious about downloading this game should consider picking up a controller.
  • The game is fun, but it is more fun if there is a second person to play as Robin. The single player mode is fine, but the game is really made to be enjoyed with a friend. (Technically, this could be considered a Pro as well).
  • Some users have commented that the game is a bit short.
  • When players choose to play in the villain story mode, they are often asked to fight “bad guys,” who in this case are policemen. Some may be offended by this.

Overall, LEGO Batman is a very funny, smart and entertaining videogame. While there may be a few minor drawbacks, for the most part, LEGO Batman is well worth your time and consideration.
